In order to clean your ferrule without scatching or damaging with harsh chemicals try the latest Flash Ferrule Cleaner now available through billiards911.

Types of ferrules:

Fibre--The most commonly used, creates a soft hit. Stand up to abuse and are almost indestructible.

Phenolic--A hard ferrule

ABS--Comes in black or natural and gives a soft hit.

Delrin--Old time favorite not used much.

Aegis--Often used in place of ivory. Very hard.

IvorineIII--A little softer then Aegis.

Ivory--Found on alot of custom cues ivory is resistent to stains. The problem with ivory is that it does fracture easier then the manmade materials.

BuffaloHorn--A black ferrule sometimes with streaks of whiteish grey. Similar feel to ivory.

*When you are chalking you want to avoid the ferrule. If you have the blue ring around your ferrule you are chalking incorrectly.

*Be careful of the tip cutting tools on the ferrule it is very common that people scratch up the ferrule when using these tools.

*When you feel you have crack in the ferrule instead of assuming its a crack have your repair person clean the ferrule first. Sometimes repair people replace ferrules that are actually not cracked even though you would swear it was a fracture. It happens very frequently that they are not cracks.
